Barrera Named to Player of Year Watch List

USA Softball tabs sophomore as one of best in the country
OKLAHOMA CITY - USA Softball named Utah's Alyssa Barrera to its Collegiate Player of the Year "Watch List" this afternoon.
She is one of nine sophomores selected to the 50-player "Watch List" and Utah is one of five Pac-12 schools with a student-athlete chosen.
Barrera, a finalist for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award, was also a second team All-Pac-12 selection.
She opened her collegiate career with an 11-game hit streak and reached base safely in her first 13 contests. By the end of the season, she had started every game and paced the Utes with 46 runs scored, sixth most in the Pac-12.

The Top 25 Finalists for the 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 25. While an athlete does not have to be on the "Watch List" to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be announced May 9 and the Top 3 announced May 23. The 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed May 29.
