SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis program is geared up for another round of action as they head to the Gonzaga Invitational, Oct. 26-28.
The tournament, which will take place on the Gonzaga campus in Spokane, Wash., will be streamed each day on
GoZags.com. The Utes will be competing against top competition this weekend with singles and doubles athletes from Gonzaga, Boise State, Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, Portland and Portland State. Â
This is Utah's second outing this fall after taking on the ITA Regionals in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Russell Benkaim and
Randy Cory advanced to the doubles semifinals with
Slava Shainyan and
David Micevski earning a spot in the quarterfinals.
The Utes are coming off a successful 2017-18 season and the nation took notice with
Dan Little (No. 65) and Micevski (No. 124) earning preseason ITA rankings. Benkaim and Cory also were recognized as the No. 56 doubles team on the preseason list.
Little played at the No. 1 court last season, finishing as Utah's highest-ranked singles player at No. 2 in the region and No. 80 nationally. He recorded eight wins over nationally ranked opponents last year, eventually earning Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention.
Micevski won 15 dual matches in singles play last season, including multiple wins over top-100 opponents. He started the year on a five-match winning streak.
Benkaim and Cory earned 13 dual wins last season that included a 10-match win streak. They knocked off the No. 30 team of Stanford along with several top-80 programs from across the country.
