LAST TIME OUT
Utah became the only Pac-12 team to earn a weekly road sweep for the second time this season, after downing the Washington State Cougars, 77-70, at Beasley Coliseum this past Saturday evening. Utah, who downed Washington earlier in the week, swept a pair of road victories again, after also doing so against both Oregon schools earlier in the season.
Â
Justin Bibbins led a trio of double-digit scorers for the Utes, closing the game with 24 points, which included an 8-of-8 effort from the free throw line.
Gabe Bealer tied a career-high with six three-pointers and finished the game with 18 points - just two points shy of his career-high.
Tyler Rawson poured in 15 points and pulled down a career-high 15 boards for this second straight double-double.
Â
Utah shot 50 percent from the field, while limiting the Cougars to just a 36 percent shooting effort overall. The Utes have now tallied at least 50 percent shooting in seven games this season.
Â
SCOUTING UCLA
The Bruins are coming off wins over both Oregon schools this past weekend, having downed Oregon State, 75-68, and Oregon, 86-78. The Bruins lost an 11-point lead against the Ducks and then needed overtime to win, but in doing so, UCLA managed to split the season series against Oregon. UCLA has now won two straight and six of its last seven games dating back to Jan. 25. The Bruins opened Pac-12 play with a 4-1 record, but then dropped three straight midway into the conference slate.
Â
While owning a 14-2 home record, the Bruins are just 2-5 overall in road games this season (2-4 in Pac-12 road games) ... UCLA ranks first in the Pac-12 with 1,054 total rebounds and first with a 39.04 rebounds per game average ... UCLA's 82.6 points per game average ranks second in the league, but the Bruins are averaging more points in road games this season, having scored 84.3 points in seven road games this season ... Despite the high offensive output, UCLA gives up 76.0 points to opposing teams, which ranks 10th in the league ... Thomas Welsh leads the Pac-12 and ranks ninth in the nation with 8.0 defensive rebounds per game ... His 10.7 total rebounds per game average ranks second in the league and 13th in the nation ... Aaron Holiday averages 19.4 points on the season, but that number is larger in Pac-12 games, scoring 20.9 points per league game.
Â
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BRUINS
UCLA has won two straight dating back to its lone win over the Utes last season. The Bruins lead the all-time series 10-7, which includes a 6-4 record against the Utes since they joined the league in 2011-12. Utah is 3-3 all-time when facing the Bruins in Salt Lake City. Utah dropped a heart breaker to the Bruins last season, 83-82, but won the previous two contests prior to that meeting.
Â
RAWSON SEEING DOUBLE VISION
Senior
Tyler Rawson became the second Ute this season to register back-to-back double-doubles, posting 15 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Washington and then registering 15 points and 15 boards in Utah's win at Washington State this past week.
Â
Rawson has now tallied a team-high three double-doubles overall on the season.
Â
Justin Bibbins registered back-to-back double-doubles earlier in the season, irconically enough, at home against both UW (20 points, 10 rebounds) and WSU (13 points, 12 assists).
Â
DISHING WITH RAWSON?
In addition to his double-digit scoring (10.9 ppg), his team-leading 175 total rebounds and his team-leading 29 blocked shots,
Tyler Rawson can also dish out some dimes. Rawson, a forward for the Utes, currently ranks second on the team with 104 total assists. His 4.0 assists per game average ranks ninth in the Pac-12 and 172nd in the nation.
Â
Not only does Rawson rank among the top-10 in the league, but he is the only forward in the league ranked among the top-10 in assists. In fact, he also ranks above many Pac-12 guards, including Arizona State's Tra Holder (3.8), Washington's David Crisp (3.3) and Oregon State's Stephen Thompson, Jr. (3.3).
Â
COLLETTE HOT FROM THE FIELD
David Collette is shooting a blistering 78.4 percent from the field over the last five games for the Utes. He is 29-of-37 from the field in his past five games overall and 26-of-31 (.839) in Utah's current four-game winning streak. His hot shooting included a stretch where he made 12 straight field goal attempts in both Stanford and California games combined.
Â
Collette is shooting a team-best 61.8 percent on the season, which also ranks second in the Pac-12 and No. 14 overall in the nation.
Â
UP NEXT
