Dunkle Leads Utah Golf on First Day of NIT

Round 1 Results

Utes to finish second round and begin third round on Monday.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Utah men's golf team is currently in 12^th place following nearly two rounds of play at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. The second-round of action was suspended due to darkness Sunday evening at the OMNI Tucson National Golf Course.

The Utes went into the second round sitting in 11^th place after carding 3-over par (288) in the first round of play. Through 16 holes of second-round action, Utah has slid one spot to 12^th place, currently shooting 1-over par in the second round, but will finish the remaining holes in the morning, beginning at 8:30 MST, with the final 18 holes to follow.

"It wasn't our best day," said head coach Garrett Clegg. "We have about 20 holes remaining to get ourselves back into the middle of the field. Hopefully we can turn it around."

Toward the end of the second round, UNLV (-35) leads the field, while Arizona State (-33) and tournament host Arizona (-25) follow behind in second and third place, respectively. Iowa State (-16) and Colorado State (-12) round out the top-five teams in the 16-team field heading into Monday.

Junior Kyler Dunkle and sophomore Jordan Costello each posted rounds of 1-under par (71) for the first round to lead Utah's five-man team. Through 16 holes on the second round, Dunkle has shot 3-under par to move into a tie for 23^rd place, currently with a combined score of 4-under par. Costello is 2-over par through 16 holes on the second round and sits in a tie for 51^st place with a score of 1-over par.

Freshman Blake Tomlinson posted a round of 4-over par (76) during the first round, but turned things around and has a score of 3-under par through 16 holes of the second round to sit in a tie for 51^st place at 1-over par with Costello.

Sophomore Mitchell Schow carded 1-over par (73) in the first round and is currently 6-over par through 16 holes on the second round. Schow is in a tie for 78^th overall with a score of 7-over par.

Freshman Tristan Mandur finished the first round at 4-over par (76) and is at 5-over par through 16 holes for the second round. Mandur has a combined score of 9-over par and currently sits in a tie for 83^rd place.

Competing as an individual in the NIT, junior Nathan Wunderli notched a 3-under par (69) during the first round of action and is at even par through 16 holes to give him a combined 3-under par and sit in a tie for 27^th place. Wunderli's round of 69 marks his lowest round of the season and ties his career-low round, which he recorded back in October of 2015 at the OGIO Utah Invitational.
