SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to Saturday's tip-off, the Utah men's basketball team will recognized five seniors:
Gabe Bealer,
Justin Bibbins,
David Collette,
Jake Connor, and
Tyler Rawson.
Â
Bealer, who transfered to the U from City College of San Francisco, has played in 70 games over the previous three seasons for the Utes. He has poured in 325 points for a 4.6 career scoring average. He has knocked down a total of 175 three-pointers and pulled down 126 rebounds in his career. The Antelope, Calif., native is averaging a career-best 6.1 points per game this season for the Utes.
Â
Bibbins is in his only season with the Utes after coming to the U as a graduate transfer from Long Beach State. In his lone season with the Utes, the Carson, Calif., native has led the squad with 139 assists, 74 three-pointers made, 76 free throws made and a 14.1 points per game scoring average. His 74 three-pointers currently ranks No. 8 all-time in single-season school history, while his .443 three-point shooting percentage also ranks among the top-10 all-time. Bibbins, who registered his 1,000th career point earlier this season, also became the first Utah player to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors since the 2015-16 season, earning the honor back on Jan. 22.
Â
Collette played two seasons for the Utes after transferring to the team from Utah State. In what has accumulated up to one and a half seasons, Collette has scored 654 points, pulled down 247 rebounds and totaled 38 blocks with the Utes. Collette, who has played in 49 games for the Utes, also became a member of the 1,000 career-points club this season. The Murray, Utah, native has averaged better than 13 points per game in both seasons donning the Red and White. His current .628 field goal percentage ranks among the top-10 all-time in single season school history.
Â
Connor has played three seasons for the Utes, while also logging a redshirt season back in 2014-15. He has played in 33 total games over the past three seasons, totaling 15 three-pointers made, 12 assists, a pair of blocks, four steals and 59 total points. The Salt Lake City native earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention accolades with the Utes last season.
Â
Rawson spent two seasons with the Utes after transferring to the U from nearby Salt Lake Community College. In his two years donning the Red and White, Rawson has played in 60 games, averaging 5.1 rebounds and 8.3 points per game. He has totaled 306 rebounds, 170 assists, 46 blocked shots and 497 total points. The American Fork native has registered season highs in both rebounds and scoring this year, averaging 6.8 boards and 8.3 points per game. He ranks second on the team and first overall among big men in the Pac-12 with 110 assists. He also leads the team having tallied 29 blocked shots on the season.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 74-58 defeat to USC this past Saturday at the Huntsman Center. The Utes shot just 23.8 percent from beyond that arc, while knocking down just five three-pointers overall. Meanwhile, the defense couldn't stop the Trojans as USC went onto shoot 50.9 percent on the day.
Â
After trailing by 10 at the half, Utah would comeback to get within six points of the Trojans, but a well-timed timeout was followed by a 16-0 run from the Trojans would push USC's lead to 71-49 with just 3:52 left to play. Utah stopped the bleeding with a bucket at the other end, but would eventually just run out of time.
Â
Collette led the way for the Utes, serving as the team's only double-digit scorer, with 14 points. He and Rawson tied for the team-high with seven rebounds, while Bibbins led the team with four assists.
Â
SCOUTING COLORADO
The Buffs are coming off a senior day-win over UCLA in Boulder this past Sunday, downing the Bruins 80-76. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak and CU has won four of its last seven games dating back to its win over Utah back on Feb. 2.
Â
CU has dropped four straight road contests and are just 1-9 on the road this season. That includes just a 1-8 mark against Pac-12 teams. The Buff's lone league win on the road was a 68-59 victory over UCLA at Pauley Pavilion.
Â
McKinley Wright is one of three CU players averaging double figures, with a team-best 14.1 points per game average. George King follows with 13.0 points, but does lead the team on the boards with 8.0 rebounds per game. Wright also leads the team with 29 steals and 156 assists. His 5.4 assists per game ranks third in the Pac-12.
Â
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BUFFS
The Utes had a seven-game winning streak over the Buffs come to an end earlier this season when Utah fell to CU, 67-55, in Boulder back on Feb. 2. The win pushed Colorado's all-time lead over the Utes to 27-21, while moving its home record against the Utes to 18-7.
Â
Utah is 13-8 all-time when facing the Buffs in Salt Lake City, which includes a current five-game home winning streak over CU. Utah's last loss to CU at home was a 55-48 defeat back on Feb. 18, 2012.
Â
DOWNTOWN WITH BIBBINS
Justin Bibbins, who currently leads the team with 74 three-pointers made on the season, moved into Utah's individual single-season record books this past weekend. The Carson, Calif., native moved into Utah's top-10 for three-point field goals made in a season, currently sitting alone at No. 8 overall on the list. He surpassed Nick Jacobson's total of 71 (2001-02), Lawrence Borha's total of 69 (2008-09) and both Johnnie Bryant (2005-06) and Phil Dixon's (1991-92) total of 68 three-pointers made.
Â
Bibbins will head into this week's final regular season game needing two three-pointers to move into seventh-place all-time (75, Shaun Green, 2008-09). Should Bibbins knock down six three-pointers, he would tie Jacobson's total of 80 three-pointers made, which was recorded back in 2002-03. Jacobson's total of 99 three-pointers is the single-season school record, which was set back in 2003-04.
Â
Bibbins has also tallied both a team and Pac-12-best 44.3 percent from beyond the arc this season. The senior ranks second in the league and 97th in the nation with 2.64 three-pointers made per game. He also ranks second in the Pac-12 with his 74 three-pointers made and first in the league with his .446 three-point shooting percentage.
Â
BIBBINS AMONG TOP-SCORING GRADUATE TRANSFERS
Bibbins, who was a graduate transfer to the U from Long Beach State, heads into week averaging 14.1 points per game, which currently ranks ninth-highest among graduate transfers in the NCAA this season. Nick King of Middle Tennessee State leads all graduate transfers with 21.4 points per game.
Â
Bibbins has tallied the third-highest scoring average among NCAA teams from power conferences, only trailing Missouri's Kassius Robertson (16.5) and NC State's Allerik Freeman (14.8). He is one of just two Pac-12 graduate transfers to rank among the top 15 players, along with Oregon's Elijah Brown (12.8).
Â
NEARING SCHOOL RECORD MARKS
In addition to Bibbins among Utah's top-10 all-time leaders in three-pointers made,
David Collette is on his way to earning a top-10 ranking as well. His 62.8 field goal percentage currently ranks fifth highest in a single season.
Â
On the team side of things, the 2017-18 Utes have tallied 258 three-pointers on the year, which currently ranks No. 3 all-time, following the total of 264 three-pointers made back in 2014-15 and the school's all-time record of 273 three-pointers made, which the 2015-16 squad recorded.
Â
The Utes have attempted 711 total three-pointers, which currently ranks No. 2 all-time, only trailing the 2015-16 squads total of 746 three-point attempts.
Â
Utah's current 76.1 team free throw percentage currently ranks No. 5 on the all-time single season list.
Â
DISHING WITH RAWSON?
In addition to his double-digit scoring (10.9 ppg), his team-leading 189 total rebounds and his team-leading 29 blocked shots,
Tyler Rawson can also dish out some dimes. Rawson, a forward for the Utes, currently ranks second on the team with 110 total assists. His 3.9 assists per game average ranks ninth in the Pac-12 and 183rd in the nation.
Â
Not only does Rawson rank among the top-10 in the league, but he is the only forward in the league ranked among the top-10 in assists. In fact, he also ranks above many Pac-12 guards, including: Arizona State's Tra Holder (3.6), Washington's David Crisp (3.2) and Oregon State's Stephen Thompson, Jr. (3.4).
Â
UP NEXT
Utah will head to the Pac-12 men's basketball championship tournament, which will be held next week in Las Vegas, Nev. The tournament is set to run March 7-10 at T-Mobile Arena.
