Grayson Murphy and Poppy Tank earn All-Academic Individual Honors.
NEW ORLEANS – The University of Utah has been selected as a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team while senior Grayson Murphy and sophomore Poppy Tank received All-Academic Individual honors.
The Utah women's cross country team combined for a 3.59 grade point average. This grade point average puts Utah at the top among other Pac-12 schools.
"Academics has been a point of emphasis for us and it is an honor to be selected," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "This group has been outstanding in the classroom. I would also like to commend our great athletic academic staff and all of the time and effort they provide out student athletes."
The Utes were one of 228 women's teams across the nation to earn All-Academic team honors. In order to be selected, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater to qualify.
Kepler has been at the helm of the program for 13 years and his cross country teams have earned All-Academic team honors 11 times.
It is the second-straight season that Murphy and Tank have earned individual honors. In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top 25 at regionals or finish as an All-American at the national meet.
Murphy finished the 2017 cross country season earning All-America honors after finishing in eighth place at the NCAA Championships. She earned all-region honors after taking second place at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships and first-team All-Pac-12 honors after placing fifth at the Pac-12 Championships. Murphy didn't finish lower than eighth in the five races she competed in.
Tank earned all-region honors with a 21st place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships and took 18th place at the Pac-12 Championships.
