LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Utah men's tennis team was unable to record a victory today against No. 13 USC, as they fell to the Trojans by a score of 4-0. This match marked the final match of the regular season for the Utes, and with this loss they will head to the Pac-12 Tournament with a 19-8 overall record.
In doubles,
David Micevski and
Santiago Sierra were the sole team to record a victory for the Utes, as they defeated Tanner Smith and Mateusz Smolicki on the No. 3 court with a final score of 6-4. The Trojans then took a 1-0 lead with victories on courts one and two to enter singles.
In singles,
Egbert Weverink was unable to record a victory at the No. 2 spot against Jack Jaede, as the senior fell 6-1, 6-2. Sierra was then topped at the No. 3 position by USC's Laurens Verboven, 6-1, 6-4, to put the Trojans into winning position. Micevski then fell on the No. 1 court to No. 13 Brandon Holt, 6-4, 6-1, as USC was able to complete the sweep over the Utes.
The Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next week, as they will start the Pac-12 Championships. The tournament will be held in Ojai, California, with the dates set for April 25
