ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – The Utah men's golf team opened play at the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships on Monday morning, completing the first and second rounds of the conference tournament at the Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.
Utah struggled during the first round of action after finishing 16-over par (371), but then turned around to record the second-lowest score on Monday at 10-under par (345) at the par-71, 7,130-yard course. Utah will head into Tuesday's third round of play in 12
th place with a score of 6-over par (371-345=716).
"We got off to a rough start today," said Utah head coach
Garrett Clegg. "Our second round was fantastic! We had the second-best round of the day. Blake played had a really good second round and so did Kyler. We have 36 more holes to play in the tournament to have a good finish. There are a number of teams close to us and if we can put together a good round tomorrow, then we can work our way up the leaderboard."
Freshman
Blake Tomlinson leads Utah after the first 36 holes of the conference championships, sitting in a tie for 14
th place with a combined score of 3-under par. Tomlinson registered a score of 1-over par (72) in the first round and then recorded a second-round 4-under par (67).
Fellow freshman
Tristan Mandur follows behind Tomlinson on the Ute squad currently sitting in a tie for 26
th place. Mandur notched rounds of 1-under par (70) and even par (71) on Monday.
Junior
Kyler Dunkle and sophomore
Jordan Costello each recorded 36 hole scores of 1-over par to sit in a tie for 36
th place. Dunkle shot 5-over par (76) in the first round, but posted a second-round score of 4-under par (67). Costello registered rounds of 1-over par (72) and even par (71).
After struggling in the first round, sophomore
Mitchell Schow notched a second-round score of 2-under par (69). Schow sits in 69
th place with a combined score of 8-over par (81-69=150). Junior
Nathan Wunderli finished with a combined score of 13-over par (82-73=155) and sits in 72
nd place.
No. 23-ranked USC leads the conference tournament after the first day of action at 23-under par (347-340=687). No. 17 Stanford (-18) is in second place, Colorado (-11) follows in third place, while Arizona (-9) and No. 22 Arizona State (8) round out the top-five teams in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Tee times for Tuesday's play will begin at 9 a.m. PT off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes. Live scoring is available via golfstat.com.
