Why did you choose Utah and what other schools were recruiting you?
JG: Utah felt like home once I stepped on campus. I enjoy the outdoors...fishing-mountain biking.  The campus itself is beautiful and I was definitely able to see myself being not only a player but a student at the University of Utah. I was very impressed during my tour by the coaches and players. I received offers from Cal State Fullerton and Saint Mary's but Utah gave me everything I needed for both my academic and athletic aspirations.
Â
Who has been the most influential person or people in your life and why?
JG: The two most influential people in my life are my parents. They've taught me how to deal with adversity as well as how to learn from failure.  This has helped develop me as a student, baseball player and a person.Â
Â
What is your favorite baseball memory so far?
JG: My favorite baseball memory was playing in the fourteen year old Babe Ruth Regionals. We had to beat Hawaii twice to make it to the World Series. We ended up beating them in both games and I was the pitcher on the mound who got the final out to send us to the Babe Ruth World Series. I'll never forget how happy I was for myself and my teammates. Once that happened, my goal has always been to lead my future college to Omaha and to win it all. Â
What are you most excited about in playing baseball for the Utes?
JG: What I'm excited about is that I will get a chance to help a team get to Omaha, which will be my goal every season at the U. I don't just want to make a regional or a super regional. I want to go all the way.
Â
What goals do you have while in college as well as after college?
JG: In school, my goal is to graduate college. On the field, my goal is to make it to Omaha and win a National Championship. National champions has always sounded amazing to me. After college I want to get drafted and play in the MLB.
