SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team will have its first practice of the 2019 season on Friday, January 25.

The team will head to St. George for the weekend for their first few practices.

"We're excited to get the season started," head coach
Bill Kinneberg said. "We will be headed to St. George for the weekend and it'll be a great opportunity to scrimmage and to play on dirt and grass. We're looking forward to having a good weekend."

The team has 19 returning players from a season ago including senior
Chandler Anderson and junior
Oliver Dunn.

Anderson had a great summer, helping lead the Corvallis Knights to a summer league championship. He was named Second Team All-WCL after hitting .337 and batting in 34 RBI. He also led the team with 22 stolen bases and was second on the team scoring 40 runs.

Dunn was second on the team for the 2018 season hitting .319 with 31 RBI. He started all 55 games in 2018 and was named honorable mention All-Pac-12.

The team welcomes 12 freshmen and two junior college transfers to the roster.

The Utes will open their season on Friday, February 15 against Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. That weekend they will also play Missouri State and Nevada in San Marcos.
