SALT LAKE CITY – Utah baseball has added four new members to its team during the national signing period, head coach
Bill Kinneberg announced.
Â
The Utes have signed RHP Ben Kibbe, catcher/pitcher Owen Mortensen, third baseman Kai Roberts and RHP Noah Turley. Without many seniors on the roster this is a smaller class, but Kinneberg is still excited about the impact they can make once they get on campus.
Â
"It's a small class that really defines our needs," Kinneberg said. "We knew it would be a smaller class going into the recruiting cycle this year, but would be quality. There are three local Utah guys and one out of state guy that we feel very positive about in helping us right away and overall are excited to have these four on board."
Â
Kibbe is a right-handed pitcher from Zillah, Washington. He was named league MVP after his junior season as well as being named first team all-league after his junior and sophomore seasons at Zillah HS. The right-handed pitcher helped lead his team to the state playoffs his freshman and junior seasons. Kibbe also plays basketball and won a state championship in 2019.
Â
Mortensen is a catcher/pitcher from Riverton, Utah and attends Bingham HS. He hit .315 his first year starting on varsity, and also helped his team win the 2018 State Championship. He plans on majoring in business at Utah.
Â
Roberts is a third baseman from Orem, Utah and attended Skyridge HS. He has lettered all four years and has a career batting average of .370. Roberts has been named first team all-state as well as second-team all-state in his high school career.
Â
Turley is a right-handed pitcher from West Midway, Utah who attended Wasatch HS. He was placed on the Class 5-A all-state second team as well as the Daily Herald second team all-valley after hitting .414 with a .501 on-base percentage. He had 22 RBI with 11 doubles.
Â
These four signees will enroll in the fall of 2020.
