LAST TIME OUT
Utah led Minnesota wire-to-wire and withstood several attempts by the Golden Gophers in the second half to walk away with the 73-69 victory – which was also the program's first win over a Big Ten team since beating Michigan 68-52 at home on Dec. 9, 2009.
The Utes rode a red-hot 16-0 start to the game to take a 39-33 lead at the break behind 10 points apiece from sophomore duo
Timmy Allen and
Both Gach. A sloppy start to the second stanza saw the Golden Gophers make their first charge at the Utes but a quick 9-2 run put a halt to it before Minnesota brought it within 50-49 with 7:50 left to play.
However, a basket from
Riley Battin followed by a steal from
Rylan Jones and 3-pointer from Gach gave the Utes a two-possession cushion that it held for the majority of the time remaining. The game was then put away when Jones committed a critical foul to keep it a two-possession game and saw Minnesota's Marcus Carr clank both free throws. A rebound from Allen and foul from the Golden Gophers sent him to the line and iced the game with a free-throw to make it 73-69.
