- Complete Release from the NABC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Utah men's basketball has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division I Team of the Week, the organization announced this afternoon.
Utah (13-10, 7-4 Pac-12) registered a pair of road wins this last week, defeating USC 77-70 at the Galen Center last Thursday and downing UCLA 93-92 at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday. Utah led wire-to-wire in its win over the Trojans, but had to erase a 22-point deficit in its win against Bruins – a victory that was decided by
Parker Van Dyke's buzzer-beating three-pointer.
Utah would sweep both L.A.-based schools on the road for the second time in school history, while also becoming just the second team in the Pac-12 to complete the four-game road sweep against all four California schools, to include Stanford and California.
For the week,
Sedrick Barefield led the way with 16.0 points per game and
Jayce Johnson averaged a team-best 11.5 rebounds per game. Johnson registered a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds) in Utah's win at USC.
Timmy Allen, who averaged 14.0 points per game, led the Utes with 22 points in the come-from-behind win over UCLA.
Utah returns action this Thursday, Feb. 14, hosting the Arizona Wildcats. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MT at the Huntsman Center.
