BOULDER, Colo. – The Utes wrapped up day two of competition at the Colorado Invite Saturday afternoon with strong showings in all three events they competed in. Redshirt freshman
Cara Woolnough highlighted the meet for Utah by capturing the event title in the women's mile race.Â
Â
"We did a great job, we were running at the front of a lot of groups and we had some really good performances across the board," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Exciting weekend, we got a lot accomplished and it was certainly another step forward and there's a lot to look forward to moving toward next week where we will be involved in three different meets."Â
Â
In the mile race, Utah had six of their eight athletes competing finish in the top-10. Woolnough finished the race in a personal-best time of 4:38.33 to secure the first-place finish.  Freshman
Scarlet Dale came in behind Woolnough capturing third place in a personal-best time of 4:58.08. Junior
Poppy Tank made her season debut finishing in sixth place with a time of 5:04.61. Rounding out the top-five finishers for the Utes was freshmen
Sophie Ryan and
Kennedy Powell. Ryan earned eighth with a personal-best time of 5:04.84 while Powell finished in ninth with a time of 5:09.28. Also competing for the Utes was sophomore's
Bella Williams (10th, 5:10.66),
Trina Moreno (17th, 5:13.97), and
Natalie Platil (28th, 5:21.39). With this time, Platil earned a new personal record. Once the altitude conversion is applied, all times in the mile will be knocked off about seven seconds and will move Woolnough into fifth place all-time at Utah and give Tank, Williams, and Moreno new personal records.Â
Â
Utah had another strong showing in the 800-meter race where all four competitors placed inside the top-15. Junior
Sarah Newton led the Utes finishing in seventh place with a time of 2:11.20. Freshman
Brooke Manson followed in Newton capturing eighth place with a time of 2:12.59. Junior
Nicole Griffiths and senior
Sadie Wassum both earned new personal records finishing in 11th and 13th place, respectively. Griffiths finished in a time of 2:13.64 and Wassum finished in a time of 2:14.64. Griffiths time is also the fastest recorded time in an 800-meter race this season. The altitude conversion for the 800-meter race will knock off about one second of everyone's time and will give Newton a new personal record.Â
Â
Sophomore
Emma Christensen was the lone Ute competing in the 5,000-meter race. Christensen finished the race in fourth place with a time of 18:11.84.Â
Â
The Utes will be back in action next weekend, Feb. 8-9, and are scheduled to be competing at three different meets. Utah will be competing at the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite Invite in Albuquerque, N.M., the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Boise Team Invite in Boise, Idaho. Â
