THE GAME
Utah (12-10, 6-4 Pac-12) will wrap-up its SoCal trip taking on the UCLA Bruins (12-11, 5-5 Pac-12) this Saturday, Feb. 9, at Pauley Pavilion. Tip-off between the Utes and Bruins is set for 2 p.m. PT.
COVERING THE RUNNIN' UTES
Saturday's contests will air on the Utah Athletics Radio Network (ESPN 700 AM) with Bill Riley and
Jimmy Soto announcing. The contest at UCLA will be televised before a national audience on Fox, with Joe Davis calling play-by-play and Doug Gottlieb serving as the color analyst.
SCOUTING UCLA
UCLA opened Pac-12 play with three consecutive wins, but have now dropped five of its past seven games, including an 84-73 defeat to Colorado in its last outing ... the Bruins are 12-11 overall and 5-5 in league play ... the Bruins average 77.5 points per game, which ranks second in the Pac-12 ... UCLA has four players scoring in double figures, with Kris Wilkes leading the way at 17.4 points per game ... he is followed by Jaylen Hands (11.8), Moses Brown (11.4) and Prince Ali (10.3) ... Brown leads the team and ranks fourth in the league with 8.7 rebounds per game ... Hands has tallied a team and league-high 148 assists and his 6.5 assists per game ranks first and is 1.5 assists more than the next competitor in the league.
UTAH vs. UCLA STATE SERIES HISTORY
Utah and UCLA split the season series last season with both home teams coming away with victories. Utah fell to UCLA, 83-64, in Los Angeles, but then came home to down the Bruins, 84-78, later in the season. UCLA leads the all-time series 10-8 and are 7-3 all-time when facing the Utes in Los Angeles. Utah's last win at Pauley Pavlion was a 75-73 victory over the Bruins back on Feb. 18, 2016.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah registered its third straight road win with a 77-70 victory over the USC Trojans Thursday night at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. Utah led by as many as 20 points in the first half and despite a late run from the home team, the Utes came away with the victory to snap a two-game skid to the Trojans.
Both Gach got his first start in Pac-12 play and came away with a team-leading 15 points, while
Jayce Johnson registered his third double-double of the season with 13 points and a season-high-tying 13 boards. Utah shot nearly 46 percent from the field, while limiting USC to a total of 38 percent from the floor.
UP NEXT
Utah returns home next week to host Arizona and Arizona State. The Utes will take on the Wildcats next Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. MT and will then close out the week taking on the Sun Devils on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. MT.
