Men's Tennis Sweeps No. 40 Old Dominion

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis team was able to sweep No. 40 Old Dominion Monarchs earlier tonight with a score of 4-0. With this win, the Utes will move to an overall record of 11-3 on the year.
"I'm really proud of the team today, this was a great team effort," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "Started off great in doubles, the energy, execution and discipline was all great for us. We got a very great doubles point and then we were able to carry that over into singles. Old Dominion was a tough team, and I'm very proud of the way we played today."
The Utes started off strong by capturing the doubles point against the Monarchs. On court No. 3, the duo of Joe Woolley and Russell Benkaim were able to top Nicola Vidal and Luca Maldoner with a score of 6-2. Azat Hankuliyev and Dan Little then secured the point at the No. 2 position with a win over Jannik Giesse and Oliver Tobisch, with a final score of 6-2.
David Micevski then kept things rolling going into singles, notching the first win against Francois Musitelli with a score of 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot. Then, on the No. 4 court, Benkaim was able to knock off Nicola Vidal, 6-4, 6-2, to put the Utes up 3-0. To then seal the victory against the 40thMonarchs, freshman Mathias Gavelin finished things off with a win at the No. 5 positon against Luca Maldoner with a score of 7-5,7-5, to sweep Old Dominion 4-0.
The University of Utah men's tennis team will be back in action this Sunday, March 3rd, as they will be hosting Denver in a home match at the Eccles Tennis Center. Competition against Denver is set to start at 12 p.m. MT, with the match being live streamed and live updates available on Twitter (@UtahTennis) and Instagram (@UtahTennis).
