STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Guro Jordheim and
Samuel Hendry won their second-straight races as the Utah ski team held on to its lead to win the Colorado Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
After coming into the day with a 71-point lead in the overall standings, the Utes again earned the team wins in both the men's and women's classic races for a 104-point victory over Colorado. The Utes had 745 points, leading Colorado (641) and Alaska Anchorage (523). Utah was the top scoring team in six of the eight races during the meet (men's slalom and giant slalom, men's and women's classic and men's and women's freestyle).
Jordheim has 14 career race victories for the Utes.
Leah Lange finished second to tie her career-best finish and earn her second career podium.
Mariah Bredal finished fourth for her fourth career top-five finish and her second top-five finish this season.
Karianne Moe finished seventh for her first top-10 finish of the season, the ninth of her career. The Utes scored 108 points in the race.
Hendry has won both collegiate races he has competed in.
Ola Jordheim finished fifth for his first top-five finish of the year and the sixth of his career.
Logan Diekmann placed sixth,
Luke Jager seventh and
Noel Keeffe eighth, putting all three in the top 10 for the second-straight race.
Maximilian Bie finished 14
th. Utah led all team scores with 96 points in the race.
"Another incredible day here in Steamboat," Director of Skiing
Fredrik Landstedt said. "Guro and Sam were very impressive in their wins and the entire team fought hard all the way to the line. Great to have lots of podiums and a team victory to start off the season. Now we are going back home for some rest and then drive to Vail on Thursday for the DU Invite next weekend."
Next up on the schedule is the Nordic races of the Denver Invitational beginning on Saturday, Jan. 25 with the classic races. Utah leads the team standings after the alpine portion of the meet by 11 points over the host Pioneers (317 to 306).
