After the a pair of home victories, the University of Utah men's basketball team looks to turn the tide on its road woes this week as it heads to the Pacific Northwest. First on the docket for the Utes will be the Beavers of Oregon State on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. (MT) on Pac-12 Network.

Branden Carlson had one of his best games of the season this past Thursday and awarded the Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Week honor on Monday, Feb. 10.

The South Jordan, Utah, product had an incredible game against then #RV/RV Stanford last Thursday and registered 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks in the overtime victory. In addition to recording his first-career double-double, Carlson's eight blocks that game changed the game completely and tied him with Jason Washburn (vs. Oregon State on Feb. 4, 2012) for the third-most blocks in a single-game at Utah.

Carlson is only the fourth freshman this season to record eight blocks in a single-game at the Division I level, joining Joshua Morgan (Long Beach State), Onyeka Okongwu (USC) and Eric Rustin (UT Martin). He is also just the 24th player this season to record eight or more blocks in a single game and tied for the most by any Pac-12 Player this season (Okongwu, USC).

PROTECT THIS HOUSE
With the wins last week against Stanford and Cal, Utah is now 10-1 when playing inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Since joining the league in 2011-12, Utah ranks fifth amongst Pac-12 teams in home wins during that stretch.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Oregon State, who recently claimed its third-straight Civil War victory over in-state rival Oregon, enters the week 14-9 overall and 4-7 in Pac-12 action. The Beavers currently sit at 2-3 in league play at home and 9-3 overall this season inside Gill Coliseum.

Tres Tinkle leads the team in several categories, averaging 19.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals. In addition, his 84 assists this year is second on the squad while his .457 shooting clip ranks third on the team (min. 50 FGA). Ethan Thompson is second on the team, averaging 15.1 points and 4.3 rebounds with a team-leading 91 assists. Meanwhile, fellow big man Kylor Kelley is third on the team in scoring with an 11.1 points average and 5.1 rebounding average to go with a team-high .576 shooting percentage.

In conference play, opponents have outscored the Beavers by a margin of 2.3 points while shooting 47-percent from the field with a .353 shooting clip from 3-point range. A huge factor have been the three-ball with opponents knocking down 19 more treys than Oregon State despite the Beavers knocking down 40 more free throws in Pac-12 action.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah completed the sweep of the Bay Area schools this past Saturday with a 60-45 victory over Cal, making it the fifth-straight sweep over the Bay Area teams at home for the Utes. After California scored the opening basket after winning the tip, it was all Utah after that behind a solid 21 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steal from
Timmy Allen – who scored 14 of the team's final 20 points in the second frame.

The Utes held a 22-7 edge in points off turnovers after forcing 17 California turnovers behind 10 steals. It was just the second time Utah recorded 10-plus steals in back-to-back games this season.

UP NEXT
After taking on the Beavers, Utah gets an extra day to prepare for No. 17/18 Oregon. The Utes and Ducks are set to get an extra day of rest before squaring off on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. (MT) on FS1. Aaron Goldsmith will have the call inside Matthew Knight Arena while Casey Jacobsen serves as the analyst as Utah looks to split the season series with UO after letting the Ducks slip away at home 69-64 back on Jan. 4.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Utes return home for their last two-game home stretch and play host to UCLA and USC when they get back from the Pacific Northwest. The Utes first face off against UCLA on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 8:30 p.m. (MT) on FS1. Another Sunday game will follow as Utah welcomes in USC (Feb. 23) for a 4 p.m. (MT) match-up on ESPNU.
