OPENING TIP
After a Thursday night's loss
, Utah now turns its attention towards No. 17/18 Oregon – who it'll face this Sunday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. (MT) on FS1. The Utes look to avenge their 69-64 loss at home to the Ducks in the opening weekend of league play with Aaron Goldsmith talking fans through the game alongside Casey Jacobsen in the 34th meeting between the two programs.
SCOUTING THE DUCKS
The Utes will have an uphill battle as they look to salvage the road swing against No. 17/18 Oregon this Sunday, Feb. 16. Since joining the Pac-12, Utah has had a tough time against the Ducks and trail the all-time series 23-10. The Utes are just 1-5 in Eugene since joining the conference with their lone win on the road against Oregon in Pac-12 play coming on Dec. 29, 2017, which was the only time the Utes have swept the Oregon schools.
UO recently got back in the win column after dropping two-straight with a 68-60 win at home to No. 16/15 Colorado – a game it trailed by as much as 14 in the first half. With the win last night, the Ducks move to 19-6 overall on the year and 8-4 in Pac-12 play.
National player of the year candidate Payton Pritchard leads Oregon offensively, averaging 19.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists with 40 steals to go along with a team-high 61 triples. Chris Duarte is second on the team, posting 14.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game with a team-high 42 steals. Will Richardson wraps up the list of double-digit scorers for UO with 10.4 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game with a .474 shooting clip.
Shakur Juiston paces the team on the glass, averaging 6.6 boards while registering 7.6 points per game. Meanwhile, sharpshooting transfer Anthony Mathis is averaging 7.9 points with a .417 shooting clip from 3-point range (50-of-120).
LAST TIME OUT
The road woes continued for the Utah men's basketball team as it fell to Oregon State 70-51 Thursday night. Despite shooting 16.2-percent better in the second half, the .296 shooting clip in the first half with nine turnovers was just too much to overcome.
Branden Carlson was Utah's lone bright spot, scoring 13 points with eight rebounds on 5-of-9 shooting while
Both Gach made his return to the line-up and came off the bench with eight points in 21-plus minutes of action. No other Ute made more than three field goals outside of Carlson's five FGM. Despite the loss, Utah was able to edge Oregon State in the battle of the glass – edging out the Beavers 34-33.
UP NEXT
The Utes now return home for their next two games, playing host to UCLA and USC inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah will get another #Pac12AfterDark game on Thursday, Feb. 20, when it welcomes the Bruins to town for an 8:30 p.m. (MT) game on FS1. The Runnin' Utes then entertain USC on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m. (MT) on ESPNU as part of a double-header with women's basketball, who will face off against #22/24 Arizona State at noon.
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah will hit the road for the final time during the regular-season as it heads to the Bay Area to take on Stanford (Feb. 26) and Cal (Feb. 29), who it swept two weeks earlier at home. The Utes are still in search of their first sweep of both the Cardinal and Golden Bears on the road as well as a complete four-game sweep since joining the league.
