SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team takes a big step in starting its season today as they begin individuals before diving into team practice for the 2021 season.
Â
"Huge day for us to get going as it has been almost two months since we've been together," head coach
Bill Kinneberg said. " I can't wait to see the guys to get going and am excited to move forward. We look forward to beginning our season in about five weeks."
Â
Team practice will begin January 29 and the schedule for 2021 is still being finalized and will be released once it is.
Â
Utah returns almost everyone from last year's team and adds in a group of talented newcomers with transfers and freshmen. Two of their transfer will be a big boost as
Jaylon McLaughlin, from Nevada, could be the leadoff hitter and
Brayson Hurdsman, from Houston, will be a boost in the bullpen and provide experience.
Â
The Utes finished the 2020 season 6-7 after winning two of three against Minnesota. The team was set to begin Pac-12 play when the season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
