SALT LAKE CITY – After some delays, the Utah men's basketball team will make its return trip to Columbia, Mo., this season and will square off against the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, Dec. 18, inside Mizzou Arena.
Thursday's announcement is the second non-conference game in as many days that has been unveiled for the 2021-22 campaign. Utah's Saturday, Nov. 13,
game against Sacramento State at home was released Wednesday afternoon.
The Runnin' Utes lead the all-time series record against Mizzou 3-0, but this season's meeting will be the first time the two have squared off in Columbia. Utah won the first game of the home-and-home series in Salt Lake City, 77-59, thanks to 17 points from David Collette to lead five Utes in double-figures.
Utah took the first meeting between the two squads back on March 24, 1944, in the NCAA Tournament West Region Semifinals, 45-35, in Kansas City. The second meeting against the Tigers also occurred in the Big Dance, this time in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 12, 1978, in Wichita, Kan. The Runnin' Utes took that meeting in an exhilarating 86-79 double overtime affair.
Missouri played in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season before finishing 16-10 overall and 8-8 in SEC play.
