Men's Basketball to Play in Fort Myers Tip-Off

The Utah men’s basketball team is set to compete in the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off MTE.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Utah men's basketball team will participate in the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off Thanksgiving week (Nov. 21-23) inside Suncoast Credit Union Arena (3,500) on the campus of SouthWestern State College.
Joining the Runnin' Utes will be Georgia Tech, Marquette and Mississippi State as part of the Beach Division. Match-ups, game times and TV designations will be announced at a later date.
Of the four teams, Georgia Tech has been the most recent participant in the NCAA Tournament after earning the ACC automatic bid with its 80-75 victory over #15/13 Florida State in the ACC Tournament Championship. Hail State fell in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament but bounced back in the NIT, advancing to the title game before falling to Memphis 77-64. Marquette, under the direction of first-year head coach Shaka Smart, hasn't been to the Big Dance since 2019 but has the most tournament appearances among the group (33).
The four programs of the 2022 Beach Division have combined for 90 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 33 by Marquette and 29 by Utah. Since 2019 and including the upcoming 2022 event, three SEC teams, two Big East programs, two Big Ten squads, two Big 12 teams, two ACC programs, two Pac-12 squads and perennial national championship contender Gonzaga have participated in the tournament.
Utah captured the Sunshine Slam Championship under the direction of first-year head coach Craig Smith this past November with the Runnin' Utes defeating Boston College (68-61) and Tulsa (72-58) in the championship game. Utah also bested Bethune Cookman 86-55 at home before beading to Daytona Beach. The tournament title was Utah's first MTE championship outside of the state of Utah since winning the 2008 Glen Wilkes Classic (Nov. 21-22), which was coincidentally inside the Ocean Center as well.
The Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off will once again include a second, four-team Palms Division field. Those four participating programs will be announced in the coming months.
