OMAHA, Neb. – University of Utah first baseman
Alex Baeza has been named a finalist for the 2022 NCAA Division I Gold Glove team, announced on Monday by the ABCA and Rawlings.
Baeza is one of three Gold Glove finalists at the position, alongside Brodey Heaton of Belmont plus Houston's Ryan Hernandez. The final ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 22.

Baeza, a local product from West Jordan, Utah, earns the nod after being named Pac-12 All-Defensive Team in his final collegiate season. He arrived with the Utes as a graduate transfer from Hawaii, quickly emerging as one of the Pac-12's top defensive players as first base. He started all 54 games for the Utes—53 at first base—and was assessed just one error on 505 chances for a .998 fielding percentage. He displayed an unparalleled ability to pick balls out of the dirt, and also aided toward a team total of 14 pickoffs for the season.
At the plate, Baeza led Utah with 17 doubles, ranking tied for 11
th in the Pac-12 during the regular season. His .278 batting average was fifth on the team.
