FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Utah men's basketball team will officially face off against Georgia Tech in its opening game of the Ft. Myers Tip-Off inside Suncoast Credit Union Arena on Monday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. (MT) on FS1. When the Runnin' Utes and Yellow Jackets face off on the hardwood floor, it will be the first meeting ever between the two programs.

Seventh-year Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner, who has a history with the Conference of Champions, played at Arizona from 1996-2000. As a player, Pastner was 1-1 against Utah winning a regular-season game in 1997 while the Runnin' Utes got the best of the former Wildcat in the Regional Final of the 1998 NCAA Tournament.

The winner between the Runnin' Utes and Yellow Jackets plays the winner/loser between Mississippi State and Marquette on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The third-place game takes place at 4 p.m. (MT) / 6 p.m. (ET) local while the championship game tips at 6:30 p.m. (MT) / 8:30 p.m. (ET) local. Both games will broadcast on FS1.

Hail State is under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Jans – who replaced former UCLA head coach Ben Howland. Meanwhile, Marquette is led by second-year head coach Shaka Smart – who led the Golden Eagles the NCAA Tournament his first season at the helm.

As part of the tournament, Utah will host Sam Houston State inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Thursday, Nov. 17, prior to leaving for Ft. Myers, Fla. The Bearkats begin their second-season in the Western Athletic Conference in 2022-23 after spending the previous 34 years in the Southland Conference. As a team, Sam Houston State went 19-14 last season and 13-5 in WAC play while the Bearkats men's basketball program has won at least 18 games every year since the 2013-14 campaign.
