Utah takes over No. 23 spot in D1Softball.com rankings
NEW ORLEANS – Carrying a 10-game win streak for the first time since 2017 and fresh off a sweep of Oregon State in their first weekend of Pac-12 action, the University of Utah softball team has earned a spot in the D1Softball.com rankings, claiming the No. 23 spot in the poll released Monday morning.
This represents the first time the Utes have made an appearance in the national rankings since they were placed in the No. 21 spot just before the 2020 season ended abruptly.
The Utes garnered this recognition on the strength of a 19-4 record, their best start to a season since they were 21-4 in 2017 and their sweep of Oregon State makes them the only team undefeated in Pac-12 play after the first weekend of league action. The Utes will try and carry that momentum into a week that starts with a Wednesday evening matchup at BYU, which will begin at 6 p.m., before beginning a road series at Arizona on Friday in Tuscon, Ariz.
Utah was originally scheduled to begin the week with a Tuesday contest at home against North Dakota State, but that game has been canceled.
The Utes are one of six Pac-12 teams in the D1Softball.com Top 25, a list that includes the Wildcats, who currently occupy the No. 17 spot. UCLA owns the Pac-12's highest ranking at No. 3, followed by Stanford at No. 5 and Washington in the 12th spot. The Oregon Ducks are ranked 21st.
