SALT LAKE CITY –
Dakota Duffalo,
Jaden Harris,
Randon Hostert and
Blake Whiting of the University of Utah baseball team have been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Â
CSC (formerly known as CoSIDA) will now place the Utah quartet on the Academic All-America ballot, with the selections for that award to be announced in early June.
Â
Duffalo, a finance major from Mesa, Arizona, has made 32 starts this season in the outfield (25 CF, 4 RF, 3 LF) with four outfield assists. He ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with six sacrifice hits and has seven multi-hit games this season. Duffalo strung together a nine-game on-base streak across the months of March and April and is a past Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Â
Studying health and kinesiology, Harris has made five weekend starts this season while also earning a pair of midweek victories. The Millville, Utah, product worked into the rotation as the Saturday starter during 2022, helping Utah record more rookie starts in Pac-12 play that season than any other team in the league.
Â
Also a health and kinesiology major, Hostert has pitched both in the rotation and bullpen this season, with Pac-12 wins against Cal and Washington State. Hostert, who hails from Idaho Falls, Idaho, was named to the 2022 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
Â
Whiting joined the Utes in 2022 as a transfer from Salt Lake Community College, earning five saves during his first season. This year, the communication major from Oakdale, California has finished six contests which ranks third on the team. During Utah's three-game sweep over Washington State, Whiting pitched 2.2 innings in the middle game on the way to picking up the win.
