Utah Finishes 2023 Season After Fall to North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 17 Utah men's tennis program wrapped up the 2023 season after a 4-0 loss to No. 14 North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Doubles play resulted in a lost advantage point for the Utes. On court one, Patrik Trhac and Berk Bugarikj battled against Casey Kania and Ryan Seggerman, but lost the match 6-4.
On court two Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman had a 5-5 grip on the match but were unable to finish before court three fell 7-5 to the Tar Heels.
During singles play, North Carolina secured their second point on court two. Capalbo fell 6-4, 6-4, putting the Utes two points behind. The third point came on court five where Bugarikj dropped the first set 6-2 and pushed the second set into a tiebreaker but ultimately finished 6-7(2-7).
The clinching point was on court one as Busleiman also pushed the second set into a tiebreaker after finishing 4-6 for the first. The second set resulted in a 7-6(8-6) loss for Busleiman and the end of the match for the team.
On court three, Francisco Bastias won 6-4 in the first set and was leading 6-5 in the second but was unable to finish before the clinch. On court four, Bruno Caula dropped the first set 6-0, and won the second 7-6(8-6), pushing his match into a tiebreaker set. This match also remained unfinished. On court six Trhac also pushed into a third set but did not finish.

The team will return home after this final wrap up for the season and begin work for the fall.
