RETURNING ROLES
Competition is as high as ever for positions and numerous Utes have opportunities to earn a spot on the court this fall. Three-year starting libero
Vanessa Ramirez returns for her senior season and is coming off a junior campaign where she finished third in the Pac-12 with 4.04 digs per set.
KJ Burgess, the reigning Pacific South Region Freshman of the Year, led all Pac-12 freshmen in hitting percentage and blocks per set last year. Her hitting percentage of .376 ranks second all-time at Utah in a single season, while fellow starting middle block
Allie Olsen finished the 2022 season with a .363 hitting percentage, which ranks sixth all-time. Also returning with a wealth of experience from last season is outside hitter
Lauren Jardine, who finished second on the team with 2.53 kills per set in 2022.
Â
Kamry Bailey played every match as a defensive specialist last season, while
Emily Smith was the team's starting setter for the majority of the season.
Amelia Van Der Werff and
Ashley West also earned playing time primarily on the right side last year. Smith led the team with 35 aces as she will move to a defensive specialist role in her fifth year as a Ute. Bringing back setting experience for Utah is
Grace Hammond and
Viktoria Wahlgren, who both saw action in select matches a year ago.
Â
NEW ON THE BLOCK
Utah welcomed a pair of transfers, along with four freshmen to the team this offseason. Outside hitter
Rianne Vos comes to the U all the way from the Netherlands as a graduate transfer. Vos has been a member of the Dutch National Team since she was 15 years old. Middle blocker
Emrie Satuala transferred to the Utes after one season at Idaho State. The Bountiful, Utah native was the Big Sky Freshman of the Year in 2022 and was a second-team All-Big Sky selection.
Â
The quartet of Ute freshmen contains three pin hitters and a libero.
Kaieva Johnson is a hometown Ute from Riverton where she was Riverton High School's all-time leader in digs despite sitting out her senior season due to a knee injury.
Kamryn Gibadlo hails from Cave Creek, Ariz., and was a 202 Honorable Mention All-American. She was a four-time All-Region selection and averaged 4.10 kills per set during her senior season. From Houston, Texas,
Skylar George also comes to the U as an AVCA All-American and All-Region selection. She was a first team All-District selection all three years of high school. Rounding out the freshman class,
Olga Musial traveled to the states from Poland. Musial, a member of the Polish National Team, won the bronze-medal with Team Poland at the 2022 European Youth Olympics Festival and U19 European Championships. Â Â
