SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis team is set to start off the 2023 Fall Season. The Utes will compete in four pre-season tournaments this fall. The team will open with the ITA Regional Championship at the Air Force Academy campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado Sept. 28-Oct. 2.
Geronimo Espin Busleiman will be competing at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. beginning Sept. 30.
Utah men hold the regional title after taking first-place in doubles and singles play during the 2022 tournament in New Mexico. Espin Busleiman is currently ranked No. 21 in singles and No. 55 in doubles along with teammate
Berk Bugarikj according to the most recent ITA pre-season rankings.
During the spring 2023 season, the Utes were ranked No.1 by the ITA for the Mountain Region. The team had a 24-6 overall record during the last season, a 6-2 conference record, and went undefeated for an astounding 12 matches at home. The team was also undefeated against all Mountain Region competitors during the season.
The Utes welcome
Gianluca Citadini to the team. The Argentine native reached No. 139 in the ITF Junior World Rankings and was the Grade 1 National Tournament Champion in Argentina. The team will also count on returning talent, including
Dylan Applegate, Jayson and
Michael Blando, Bugarikj, Espin Busleiman,
Bruno Krenn, and
Geremia Rossi.
Following the ITA Regionals, the squad will travel to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Idaho State Invitational Oct. 6-Oct. 8. Before fishing the fall slate at the Loyola Marymount Invitational.
