BOULDER, Colo. – After two clean sheets at home last week, the University of Utah women's soccer program earned their third straight shutout in a Friday evening match with the University of Colorado at Pentup Field.
The meetup of two unstoppable offenses and two unmovable defenses resulted in a battle of shots and saves.
"This was a gritty and entertaining battle between two very different, but quality teams," said head coach
Hideki Nakada. "We created numerous quality chances in the first half, but their goalkeeper made incredible saves to keep them in the game."
The Utes out-shot the Buffs in the first half, 11 to six, keeping seven on target. Seven different Utes marked attempts and four of those players marked multiple shots. Graduate
Taliana Kaufusi and sophomore
Lilliah Blum put down the most efforts for Utah, each shooting four shots, with freshman
Bella Woods following close behind with three.
"Colorado put us on our heels late in the game, but so much credit to our Utes for battling and keeping the clean sheet," said Nakada.
In the second half, Colorado earned 8 corners to Utah's 1, but Wardle and team were able to clear all the Buff's efforts.
Junior
Brooklyn Blaylock, reigning Big 12 defensive player of the week, tallied her second save for the Utes in as many games. Off a CU corner kick, Blaylock was there to head the ball out of danger for the second game in a row.
Senior goalkeeper
Kasey Wardle put in the work, bringing in seven saves for Utah. With this clean sheet, Utah adds it's third straight shutout. The last time they accomplished back-to-back-to-back conference shutouts was in October of 2022.
"We are peaking at the right moment and I am really looking forward to the Big 12 tournament to see what we can do," said Nakada.
