Branden Carlson continues to earn national recognition, garnering NABC Second-Team All-District honors the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced on Tuesday.
Carlson is just the third member of the Runnin' Utes to earn multiple all-district honors, joining Luke Nevill (2007 & 2009) and Delon Wright (2014-15). The South Jordan native was a first-team honoree last season.
In total this season so far, Carlson has been named First-Team All-Pac-12, Associated Press Second-Team All-Pac-12 and the Governor's State of Sports Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year.
Through 32 games this season, Carlson is averaging 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 blocks while leading the Runnin' Utes in all but the assists category. The 7-footer is also shooting 49-percent on the year with a .374 clip from 3-point range. He also leads the country in 3-point field-goals made by players 7-foot or taller with 58 triples on the season.
In his final season of the Pac-12, Carlson averaged 17.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 assists to pace the Utes while shooting .480 from the field. He also registered 30-plus points in three league games – including a league-best 40 points against Oregon State on the road after scoring 30 points the game before.
The program's leader in blockers (234) and games played (142), Carlson heads into Tuesday's first-round NIT game with 1,825 career points, 822 rebounds, 164 assists and 44 steals. He is the only player in Pac-12 Conference history to have at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 100 assists and 200 blocks.
