SALT LAKE CITY – Utah head men's basketball coach
Craig Smith announced the addition of East Carolina transfer Ezra Ausar for the upcoming season.
He joins four other fellow transfers in Keanu Dawes, Mason Madsen, Zach Keller and Miro Little.

"As we went through the recruiting process, it was evident that he has a very tight knit family and we couldn't be more ecstatic to welcome him into our family. Ezra is a dynamic player that brings tremendous energy, intensity and tenaciousness to our program. He's very athletic and plays with a lot of force. His versatility positively impacts the game in a multitude of ways."
Ausar comes to Salt Lake City after spending the last two seasons at East Carolina where he averaged 10.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 24.4 minutes while playing in 64 games with 44 career starts. Additionally, he was effective from the floor offensively, shooting above 50-percent both years with an average shooting clip of .537.
As a sophomore he averaged 11.4 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting a .514 clip with three double-doubles. He was third on the team in scoring, rebounds and shooting percentage. Of the 32 games he played in that season, he reached double-figures 18 times – including a stretch of seven straight games.
He posted his first 20-point game of the season against Campbell with 24 points and 8 rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting in the third game of the year. Ausar then posted his first of three double-doubles against Maryland-Eastern Shores with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He then put up 25 points with 8 rebounds with a pair of steals and blocks at home against SMU.
Ausar picked up his second double-double of the year in conference action at UAB scoring 16 points while pulling down 10 boards. His third double-double of the year came in the second-round game of the AAC Tournament where he poured in a career-high 28 points with 10 boards to help ECU defeat Tulsa. His 28 points was most by any Pirate in a tournament game while also setting the tournament single-game record with an .833 shooting clip against the Golden Hurricanes.
The 6-9 foward's freshman season in Greenville saw him become the first Pirate to be unanimously named to the AAC All-Freshman Team since 2019 after averaging 9.8 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting .562 with 18 double-digit games – 12 of which came in conference action. His 5.3 boards per game were good for second-best on the team while his 9.8 points average was good for fourth that year. He also had four different stretches that season where he would score double-digit points for four-straight games.
He made his collegiate debut in the season-opener against Mercer before recording his first-career points against Presbyterian. He then picked up his first double-digit scoring game against South Carolina State where he scored 18 points with 7 rebounds. Shortly after, Ausar made his first-career start against Campebell where he tallied 10 points with 5 boards.
Ausar made his AAC debut against Temple with 10 points and 4 rebounds. He recorded his first-career double-double midway through the conference slate against SMU posting 19 points with 13 rebounds. The following week, he recorded his second double-double of the year with 14 points and 14 rebounds against Cincinnati to become the first ECU player to have consecutive games with a double-double since 2019. He posted a season-high 22 points with 8 boards on the road against Tulane before pouring in a team-high 18 points against top-ranked Houston in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
The Atlanta, Ga., product prepped at Liberty Heights Athletics Institute in Charlotte, N.C., where he led the team to a 30-3 record in 2021-22. He was also a McDonald's All-American nominee that year after averaging a double-double and named to the Phenom Hoop State Championship All-Tournament First-Team. He previously played at IMG Academy and Shiloh High School. The 6-9 guard was a four-star prospect according to On3 and three-star according to 247Sports at the prep level.
