Kaylah Nelsen Named to Big 12 Preseason Team

Utah lands in No. 6 spot in Big 12 Preseason Poll
IRVING, TEXAS – Kaylah Nelsen was named to the Big 12 Softball Preseason Team while the University of Utah softball team landed in sixth in the conference's preseason poll, which was released on Friday along with the league's preseason team.
For Nelsen, this initial 2025 honor comes after an outstanding 2024 campaign that landed her on the All-Pac-12 Second-Team. While providing the Utes with an excellent glove in her first year manning first base, the California native also hit .370, led the conference in doubles and finished in the top 10 in hits and RBIs. She carried her strong play into the postseason as well, driving in four runs at the conference tournament to earn a spot on the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team.
Utah's placement in sixth matches where they finished in their final season of Pac-12 competition and comes as a result of the Utes receiving 52 total points in the voting. Oklahoma State was picked to finish atop the conference standings, getting nine of the 11 first-place votes for 99 points, nine ahead of second-place Texas Tech. Arizona was predicted to take third, followed by Baylor, BYU and the Utes. UCF took seventh, followed by Arizona State, Kansas, Iowa State and Houston.
