SALT LAKE CITY – Utah first-year head men's basketball coach
Alex Jensen will be accompanied by
Keanu Dawes and
James Okonkwo at Big 12 Men's Basketball Media Day presented by New Era next Wednesday, Oct. 22, in Kansas City at T-Mobile Center.
Fans can catch Coach Jensen, Dawes and Okonkwo live on ESPNU from T-Mobile Center between 12:20-12:30 p.m. (MDT). This will be the first-ever appearance at media day for all three.
Dawes is the only returner for Utah with significant playing time from last season. The junior forward averaged 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds last season while shooting .614 from the field. In his final six games of the season, Dawes broke out for the Utes and averaged a double-double with 13.2 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Okonkwo joins Utah after spending last season at Akron where he averaged 6.9 points and 7.2 rebounds to go with a .593 shooting clip. The 6-8 big man comes to Utah with previous Big 12 experience having played at West Virginia (2021-23) for two seasons and one at North Carolina (2023-24).
Jensen is set to begin his first year at the helm of his alma mater on Friday, Oct. 17, as the Runnin' Utes host Nevada in a FREE exhibition game inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center at 7 p.m. (MT). He will then officially make his head coaching debut for Utah on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. (MT) against San José State with Chris Sylvester and former Utah men's basketball assistant coach Joe Cravens calling the action on ESPN+ to kick off opening night of the 2025-26 college basketball season.
