SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's tennis team started fall action by hosting the Utah Invitational. The Utes welcomed Montana State, Utah State and Idaho State in the round robin style tournament.
Utah was led by Max Relic who walked away undefeated on the weekend with an 8-0 record between doubles play and singles.
One the first day, Utah duo Relic and Emmett Potter started things off with a 6-2 win over Quentin Lamothe and Tyler Dalos from Idaho State.
Later in singles all four Utes came away with victories in the first round of singles. Potter defeated Utah State's Dmitri Goubin 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Relic also posted an impressive win over Utah State's Emmanuel Alex, 6-3, 7-5 (9).
Charles Frey picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Utah State's Eemil Pasanen and freshman AJ Deem picked up his first win as a Ute by defeating Keanu Rigby 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3).
In the second singles session on the first day Utah took on some of the Bengals from Idaho State. Relic continued his hot streak on the first day by defeating Luka Vujacic 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Frey picked up a second win on the day by taking down Lewie Bouman 6-2, 6-2.
On the second day Utah went 4-0 in doubles play. Potter and Relic downed Utah State's Alex and Goubin 7-6 (4). Frey and Deem then posted a 6-4 win over Rigby and Pasanen. In the second round of doubles Potter and Relic defeated Idaho State's Valentino De Pellegrin and Sep de Visser with 7-5 scores. Frey and Deem battled through a tiebreak and came out victorious 7-6 (3) over ISU's Bouman and Hayden Ciguenza.
In singles action on the second day, Potter defeated Andre Steward 6-4, 6-2. Relic stayed hot with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Eddie Bliss. Deem also posted his second singles victory on the weekend defeating MSU's Oumar Diallo 6-3, 6-4. Frey had an intense battle against Yassin Elaroussy but ultimately fell in a tie break with scores of 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-7(5).
In the final day, Potter and Relic closed out the tournament undefeated by taking down Stewart and Elaroussy 6-2. Frey and Deem also came out with a W on the final day by downing Bliss and Diallo 6-2. In singles, Utah took on the rest of the Idaho State squad. Potter walked away with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ciguenza. Relic went undefeated in singles by picking up a 6-4, 7-5 win over Lamothe. Frey closed out the weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rafael Maya.

The Utes will travel to Las Vegas for the ITA Regionals before heading to the ITA Sectionals Nov. 6-9.
