The Utah men's tennis team returns to Salt Lake City to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2:00 p.m. After posting two wins this past weekend against North Florida and Portland, the Utes are looking to continue their momentum as they return home.Â

SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS
Arizona State is currently 3-2 overall on the season and will take on Pepperdine, NAU, and DePaul before facing the Utes on Sunday. The last time Utah and Arizona State met was in 2024, when the Utes traveled to Tempe and fell short in a 0-4 L. Arizona State posts a 4-3 record against Utah and a 1-3 record against the Utes in Salt Lake City.Â
LAST TIME OUTÂ
The Utes are headed home after a three-match weekend against Washington, North Florida, and Portland. The Utes faced a tough test against Washington, falling 0-4 to move to a 2-1 overall record. The Utes fell short in doubles play, dropping matches at No. 2 and No. 3, while the remaining match went unfinished. In singles, Washington secured wins at No. 2, No. 6, and No. 3 to clinch the match. Despite the loss, Reid Jarvis won his first set at No. 5 and was tied in the second when play stopped, while Berk Bugarikj was leading his second set 5-3 after dropping the first.
Utah rallied in singles play to secure a victory over North Florida despite dropping the doubles point. Reid Jarvis and Berk Bugarikj earned quick wins at No. 5 and No. 1, before North Florida tied the match with a win at No. 6. Max Relic put Utah back in the lead with a straight-set victory at No. 3, while Dante Teramo clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-6 (7) win at No. 4. Emmett Potter's match at No. 2 went unfinished after he won a tight first set and trailed in the second.
The Utes finished their weekend with a 4-2 victory over Portland. Utah secured the doubles point with wins from Emmett Potter and Max Relic at No. 2, and Nicolas Calixto and Berk Bugarikj at No. 3. In singles play, Calixto and Bugarikj extended Utah's lead with straight-set wins at No. 6 and No. 1. Portland responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, but Dante Teramo clinched the match for Utah with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 4. Reid Jarvis' match was unfinished after he won the first set and led in the second.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
Utah Head Coach Roeland Brateanu, the 2023 Pac-12 Coach of the Year and a five-time ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year, leads the Utes for his eleventh season this spring. Under Brateanu's leadership, the Utah men captured the 2023 Pac-12 Regular Season title and secured their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to its second consecutive second round appearance with a win over Old Dominion. The Utes finished with a 24-6 overall record and a No. 1 ranking in the ITA Mountain Region. Brateanu currently holds a 183-106 overall record at Utah.
