SALT LAKE CITY – Two members of the Utah baseball team were included in D1Baseball.com's Week 6 position-by-position rankings. Senior
Core Jackson was listed as the No. 13 shortstop in the nation while sophomore and right-handed ace
Colter McAnelly was tabbed the No. 32 starting pitcher.
Â
McAnelly was the top-ranked starting pitcher from the Big 12 Conference on the list while Jackson had the second-best spot among shortstops in the league.
Â
Jackson returned for his senior season at Utah after putting on an All-Pac-12 campaign during 2024. His success as a junior has carried forward into the Big 12, leading the Utes in most major offensive categories including batting average (.406), OBP (.471), slugging percentage (.689), runs batted in (24), runs scored (43), home runs (6) and total bases (73) while tying for a team-best with 10 doubles.
Â
Conference-wide, Jackson checks in among the leaders in batting average (5
th), hits (T-2
nd, 43) and total bases (5
th). The native of Wyoming, Ontario, he has a .977 fielding percentage which was tied for the best among the top-13 players on D1Baseball.com's list.
Â
McAnelly took on the Friday night starter role heading into the 2025 season and has been stellar with three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week recognitions. Hailing from Cheyenne, Wyoming, he has made seven starts with a 2-1 record and 2.72 earned run average; his ERA clocks in at third-best in the Big 12. He leads the league in innings pitched (46.1) and WHIP (0.99), while also ranking near the top of the conference in strikeouts (2
nd; 51), opposing batting average (4
th; .204) and walks per nine innings (5

Â
Helped by a 12-strikeout outing against Oklahoma State—which tied the Utah program record—McAnelly has notched 25 K's in conference play, the most of any arm in the Big 12 to date.
Â
D1Baseball.com will release its next set of playing rankings after Week 12.
