TULSA, Okla. – The No. 14 University of Utah Men's Golf team climbed two spots into the Top 10 at the Big 12 Championships on Wednesday as
Gabriel Palacios finished even for the day to tie with
Braxton Watts in 18
th.
"Today was a much better day for the team," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "All five of our guys had solid rounds of golf and we hit much higher quality shots. Hopefully tomorrow we can go out have a great final round to finish off our first Big 12 Championships."
Palacios got things started on the back nine, tallying three even marks before notching two birdies and a bogey across the middle four holes to sit 1-under. Into the front nine, the sophomore ran into a bogey on the second hole to even out before recording a bogey and a birdie on back-to-back holes to finish even and in a tie for 18
th. Palacios made the largest jump by any Ute on the leaderboard, climbing 16 spots to close the day.
Watts opened the day's play with a bogey on the second hole but came back with a birdie on the ensuing hole to sit even. To close the back nine, Watts recorded back-to-back bogeys to sit 2-under through the back half of the course. Moving into the front nine, Watts drilled a birdie on the first hole before capturing a bogey and a birdie three holes later. On the final hole of the course, the senior ran into another bogey to shoot 1-over for the day and in a tie for 18
th.
Sophomore
Sergio Jimenez shot 3-over for the second consecutive round. Jimenez drilled a birdie on the second hole of the day but couldn't capture any more red marks, totaling four bogeys throughout the final 11 holes to finish 3-over and in a tie for 40
th.
Davis Johnson added his best round of the tournament, recording a triple bogey on the fourth hole of the back nine but responded with six straight even marks into the front nine. The redshirt junior added two bogeys but came back with back-to-back birdies on the following two holes to finish 3-over for the day. Johnson currently sits tied for 51
st.
Brandon Robison also tallied his best round of the tournament, posting a 1-over 71 to jump 10 spots on the individual leaderboard. Robison opened play with a birdie on the first hole of the back nine but finished off the half with two bogeys. In the front half, Robison recorded two sets of a bogey and a birdie on consecutive holes to finish in a tie for 54
th.

The final round of the Big 12 Championships will conclude the tournament tomorrow as the Utes will tee off starting at 6:00 A.M. in Tulsa.
