SAN LUIS OBISPO, Cali. – The No. 20 Utah Volleyball team suffered their third loss of the 2025 season in day two of the SLO Classic against Cal Poly.
Despite the Utes' best efforts, not much went their way Friday night in a 3-0 sweep by the Mustangs (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) giving Utah a 7-3 record.
SET ONE
Utah started slow falling into a 16-6 hole to Cal Poly early in set one.
Despite service aces from
Leah Wilton-LaBoy and
Langley Griffin, the Utes struggled to get much going and fell to the Mustangs 25-14.
SET TWO
The momentum stayed with the Mustangs through set two, with Utah unable to get much going, falling to Cal Poly 25-18.
SET THREE
The Utes got off to a better start in the third set, jumping to a 3-0 start thanks to three
Kamryn Gibadlo kills in a row, but Cal Poly proved pesky, forcing 10 ties and one lead change that ultimately sealed Utah's fate, 25-19.
STANDOUT STATS
- Utes Total Stats: 26 kills, three service aces, four blocks, 37 digs.
- Gibadlo led the Utes in kills (13), total attempts (42), hitting percentage with over five kills (.119), and digs (9).
- Emrie Moea'i and Wilton-LaBoy led the team in blocks (2), Wilton-LaBoy also led the team in assists (21).
- Grace Moss recorded her first ace in set two.
UP NEXT
The Utes finish the SLO Classic on Saturday, Sept. 20, sizing up St. Mary's at 12 p.m. MT.
Utah then turns their attention to Big 12 Conference play, hosting Iowa State on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. MT for '90s Night, and then welcoming Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. MT for Youth Day and the Kid's Clinic. Both games will be available on ESPN+.
