SALT LAKE CITY— The Utah Utes men's tennis team will open home play against the Idaho State Bengals on Thursday, Jan. 29 starting at 12 p.m. MT. The Utes currently hold a 0-2 record after a loss to the Oregon Ducks this past weekend.

SCOUTING THE BENGALS
The Idaho State Bengals are coming off a 12-11 overall record in the 2025 season. The Bengals went 6-2 in Big Sky play. The Bengals see returner in senior Valentino De Pellegrin, who led the Bengals with an overall singles record of 12-6. Idaho State's official 2026 season will open up Thursday, January 29 against the Utes before traveling down to face Whitworth University.
THE UTES
The Utah men's tennis program returns seniors Max Relic and Dante Teramo. The Utes also welcome back junior Emmett Potter. Utah has one sophomore returning to the squad in Charles Frey. The Utes welcome five newcomers with two transfers in Lorenzo Esquici and Simeon Terziev and three new true freshmen in AJ Deem, Oliver Mesicek, and Balthazar Huss.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utah men's tennis team fell 0-4 against the Oregon Ducks in their second match of the season.The Utes got off to a slow start as the Ducks swept the Utes in doubles action. In singles play, Oregon secured victories at the No. 4, No.2 , and No. 5 spots to clinch the match.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
The Utah men's tennis team welcomed back Roeland Brateanu for his twelfth season as head coach. Brateanu coached the team to a historic 2022-2023 season, earning their first Pac-12 Regular Season Title. Prior to that season, Brateanu led the team to an 18-0 record in the 2021 season and finished ranked in No. 50 in the Oracle/ITA finale ranking. Brateanu currently holds a 183-108 overall record at Utah.
NEXT UP
The Utes will bounce back home for a home game against Northern Arizona on Sunday, February 1. Utah will then head to Colorado to play Denver on Fri. February 6.
