IRVING, Texas – After a week in which she hit .563, slugged .875 and helped the Utes go 4-1,
Mia Gomez has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
On Friday, Gomez singled and drove in a run in a win over Cal, then added two more knocks, including her first collegiate home run, to help Utah top Santa Clara. In a victory over San Jose State on Saturday, Gomez doubled twice and collected a pair of RBIs and she closed out the week with another multi-hit performance, going 3-for-4 against UCSB.
Overall, Gomez went 9-for-16 at the plate with 14 total bases, three RBIs and three runs scored. She's first Ute to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Week since
Kennedy Proctor nabbed the honor on April 1, 2025.
