DENVER – The Utah men's tennis team battled with the Denver Pioneers in a 4-3 loss Friday evening.

The Utes secured the doubles point advantage to start the match off. First Emmett Potter and Charles Frey picked up a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot over Theo Coats and Connor Robb-Wilcox. Balthazar Huss and Dante Teramos secured the doubles point thanks to a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot over Ryoma Mishiro and Samuel Rovai.

In singles play, Utah's Huss picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot over Mishiro to push the Utes to a 2-0 lead overall in the match.

Denver was then able to pick up wins in the No. 6 and No. 3 spots to tie the match 2-2. Teramo battled at the No. 1 spot by dropping the first set 3-6 but won the second set 6-3. He dropped the third set 1-6 to give the Pioneers the 3-2 edge over the Utes.

Potter also pushed his match into three sets but couldn't close out as Denver clinched the overall match. Simeon Terziev was able to finish out his match at the No. 4 spot picking up a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3 win over Robb-Wilcox.

Utah is now 2-3 overall on the season.

UP NEXT
The Utes will stay in Denver to take on the Montana Griz tomorrow before hitting the road for to take on San Diego State Feb. 14.
