IRVING, Texas – For the second time in 2026, Utah rookie outfielder
Danika Wilson has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week. The award was announced on Tuesday, with Wilson sharing the honor with Arizona's Kez Lucas.
Wilson reached base safely multiple times in all three Utah games last week, scored four times and drove in three runs. She singled, drove in a run and scored a run on Friday and singled and scored Utah's first run in a 2-1 victory on Saturday. On Sunday, she recorded two more hits, including her sixth home run of the season, and crossed home plate two more times. For the week, Wilson, who has now reached base safely in 16 straight games, went 4-for-9 with a .778 slugging percentage.
This makes three Freshman of the Week awards for Utah so far in 2026.
Mia Gomez was also named the conference's freshman of the week on Feb. 17. Wilson is also the first Ute to win two freshman of the week awards in one year since Abby Dayton in 2023.
