Utah Downs BYU 4-3 in Rivalry Game

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utes powered up with a nail-biting 4-3 win over rival BYU. Utah secured its spot in the Big 12 Tournament with the victory.
DOUBLES
AJ Deem and Lorenzo Esquici started the Utes off strong with a 6-3 win against BYU's Caden Hasler and Hardy Owen in the No. 3 spot.
BYU duo Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner defeated Utah's Balthazar Huss and Dante Teramo with a 6-4 score to make the doubles edge even.
The point advantage came down to the No. 2 spot where Emmett Potter and Simeon Terziev battled into a tie break against TJ Wells and Tygen Goldammer. BYU clinched the point with a 7-6(5) win.
SINGLES
Utah started singles off strong with back-to-back-to-back wins. At No. 6, Charles Frey tied came away with a 6-0 win in the first set. Frey was down 0-3 in the second set and came back big to claim a 6-3 second set win against Redd Owen to tie the overall match up at 1-1.
Simeon Terziev continued the momentum with 6-3, 6-3 win over Yubel Ubri at the No. 3 spot.
Lorenzo Esquici gave the Utes a 3-1 advantage in the No. 4 spot. Esquici nabbed a 6-4 first set win. He trailed 5-0 in the second set and powered through to force a tiebreak and ultimately came out victorious with a 7-6(0) score over Yubel Ubri.
BYU's Adam Chodur clinched the Cougars another point with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Utah's Dante Teramo at the No. 1 spot.
Caden Hasler tied the overall match score 3-3 with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Balthazar Huss in the No. 5 spot.
The win came down to the No. 2 spot where Emmett Potter battled against Tygen Goldammer. Potter won his first set 6-3 and then fell in a tiebreak in the second set 6-7 (7). In the third set Potter battled to come away with a 6-3 win to clinch the match for Utah to down BYU.

The Utes head to Orlando, Fla. to play in the Big 12 Tournament.
