Dan Finn is in his second season as Utah's offensive line coach after four seasons at Idaho (2007-10) and San Diego State (2011). He actually got his NCAA FBS start at the U., serving as a graduate assistant from 2005-06.
He coached a second-team all-conference lineman in his first season back, helping senior Sam Brenner make a successful switch from right guard to left tackle. Two Ute offensive linemen earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors in 2012--senior Tevita Stevens and true freshman Jeremiah Poutasi. Brenner (Miami Dolphins) and Stevens (Washington Redskins) were both signed as undrafted free agents.
Finn's line blocked for 1,000-yard rusher John White (1,041 net yards) and finished in the upper half of the league in sacks allowed per game (2.08).
During his first stint with the Utes, he helped coach first-team all-Mountain West Conference offensive linemen Jesse Boone and Tavo Tupola.
In his only season at San Diego State, Finn mentored 2011 first-team all-MWC tackle Tommy Draheim. The Aztecs finished with an 8-5 record and played in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
He went to SDSU after four years at Idaho (2007-10), where he coached two all-Western Athletic Conference players, including 2010 first-round NFL draft pick Mike Iupati. As a senior in 2009, Iupati was a consensus All-American and Outland Trophy finalist. Idaho played in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl, beating Bowling Green.
Finn began his coaching career at Mesa Community College in 2002, working with the defensive line. He spent the 2003 season as the defensive coordinator at Phoenix College. He accepted a graduate assistant position with Southern Utah in 2004 and oversaw the centers and guards.

A first-team all-Big Sky selection from 1995-97, he earned honorable mention accolades as a freshman in 1994. He was NAU's team captain as a junior and senior and its MVP and offensive player of the year in 1997. He then played professional football for two years, first in 1998 as a member of the Denver Broncos' practice squad. In 1999, he started at guard for the World Bowl champion Franklin Galaxy of NFL Europe.
