Kelly Talavou, a former first-team all-conference defensive tackle for the Utes who went on to a four-year NFL career, is now working with the defensive line as a graduate assistant. He spent last season as a student assistant coach while completing his bachelor's degree.
Talavou started 24 games for the Utes from 2005 and 2006 and was named first-team all-Mountain West Conference his senior season. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons, Talavou spent his rookie year in Seattle and then played three seasons (2008-10) with the Baltimore Ravens.
Talavou began his college career at Idaho, lettering in 2002 and 2003 before transferring to Utah, where he redshirted in 2004.
The native of Santa Ana, Calif., earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from the U. in the spring of 2013 and is now pursuing a master's degree in educational psychology. He was born Oct. 4, 1984.
