2017: Played in 42 contests, starting 31 for Utah … had three hits and scored three times while also notching a stolen base vs. No. 8 Washington … scored twice, doubled and drove in three during a win over Toledo … hit her first collegiate homer, a three-run shot, in a win over Grand Canyon … smashed a three-run bomb vs. No. 6 Washington during the NCAA Super Regional … doubled and singled while scoring twice during a NCAA Tournament victory over Fordham … scored a pair of runs in the NCAA Regional Final vs. No. 21 BYU and also accomplished the feat vs. No. 23 Arizona State and Toledo … had multi-hit games vs. No. 8 Washington, No. 10 UCLA and Stanford … her first run came in the season opener vs. UC Riverside … first extra base-hit was a double vs. Texas-Arlington … first home run vs. Oregon State … first stolen base was at Stanford.
Prior to Utah: A high school All-American and 2015 New Mexico Softball Gatorade Player of the Year, Castaneda batted .556 as a senior at Rio Rancho (N.M.) High School, amassing an. 874 slugging percentage while driving in 41 runs, scoring 39 and stealing 25 bases. She also helped Rio Rancho to consecutive state titles while being named All-State, All-District and All-Metro. Castaneda played her club ball for the New Mexico Sundancers.
Personal: BreOnna is the daughter of Greg and Vanessa Castaneda. She has four siblings, Ty, Trey, Elijah and Taylor and was an honor society student as well as an all-academic selection at Rio Rancho.
