Merkley Qualifies For NCAA Cross Country Championships

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - University of Utah's Chris Merkley qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships by placing seventh in the 10k with a time of 30:32 at the Mountain Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Johanna Nielsen, who placed 12th overall (17:30) in the women's 5k, missed qualifying for national by one place. Nielsen was only one second behind 11th place finisher Kendra Versendall of Northern Arizona (17:29).
The men's team had three top 20 finishes. Along with Merkely, Travis Hildebrand placed 12th (31:14) and Teren Jameson finished 20th (31:34). The men's team placed seventh and the women 14th out of 17 teams.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held Nov. 22 in Bloomington Ind.
