LAWRENCE, Kan. - University of Utah senior Jeff Simonich placed eighth at the NCAA cross country championships Monday. Simonich (30:22.20) was the fifth fastest American to finish the 10k race and produced the fastest time ever run by a Ute at the NCAA championships. Simonich gained All-America status for the second year in a row.
"We're just really excited," said head coach Mike Jones. "Jeff jumped out in the lead with the first six or eight runners right from the start and never faltered. I'm really proud of him." The Utes will begin their indoor track season Jan.16 at the Snake River Open in Pocatello, Idaho.
