This Week: Utah takes its 3-3 record on a three game road trip to California. The Utes travel to Moraga on Feb. 27, to take on St. Mary's, then to Berkeley, to face off against California. The Golden Bears are currently ranked at No. 25 nationally and finished last season ranked No. 11. Erik Dmytruk plays in the No. 1 slot for California and holds a No. 14 ranking in Region VIII. The Utes finish up the road trip in Palo Alto where they will take on Stanford. The Cardinal is the No. 1 ranked team in their region, and the nation. Stanford presents a formidable opponent as all six of their singles players are in the Region VIII top 30. Ryan Wolters plays at No. 1 for the Cardinal, and hold the No. 5 national ranking.
Before the Feb. 4-7 tournament, Coates and Rodrigue held a No. 13 national ranking, and the win pushed them up five spots to No. 8. The tandem won its first match at the tournament defeating Harvard's Scott Clark and Mark Passarella, 7-6, 7-5. Coates and Rodrigue fell in the second round, to the third seeded team from Illinois, 6-4, 6-3. The Utah duo has held on to their No. 1 Region VII ranking all season. They are the highest nationally ranked doubles team ever from the University of Utah.
Freshman Ashley Dyer has been a formidable addition to the Utes squad in the regular season. Dyer has played two matches at No.3, two more at No. 2 and one at No. 1. He is 4-1 overall, having only lost three sets all season. Dyer transferred along with Patrick Wallebring in time for the dual season in January. Wallebring has played up and down the lineup, and currently holds a 2-2 record. Senior Philippe Rodrigue makes his return to the lineup this week after missing the last five matches to injury. Rodrigue holds an 8-3 record, and is 1-0 in dual matches.
